“What does your academic portfolio cover?” “Is there anything else I should know?”

“What is your artist statement for this portfolio?” “What is contained in these current portfolios, and what differentiates the hobbyist one?”
The work that I currently focus on and present in these two current portfolios are representative of my experiences as a young LGBTQ+ person living in a rural community. The work within is often focused on subjects within small town ideals, nature, or the tentative pull of the desire for human connection that has been accentuated by this upbringing. I work with experimental methods in every body of work I produce, whether that means painting texture with cardboard scraps dowsed in color, or exaggerated pen lines that serve to build forms into their own texture as well. Line becomes form, line becomes light, line becomes attitude. I don’t suggest line as attitude to solely imply aggression though, I often prefer using it to suggest comfort, empathy and support. I believe in the idea of complete self expression, and try to contend with the pain of needing to obscure your own feelings and needs for the sake of conforming to the current irony heavy and over-critical attitudes towards art and media that I have observed in the decade so far. I want to breathe color and life into emotions that are hard to access. I need to make art to support this personal struggle, and I intend to do so with every artistic effort I make. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This current portfolio (above) contains work from no earlier than early 2023, and is intended to focus on any illustrations or paintings that acclimate to my current standards. A photography section is also here, just on the virtue of it being a hobby I indulge in very frequently. That said, I don’t consider it part of my professional art career, so the link below actually takes you to the photography page of the low-key art section. Still, I’d say it’s worth visiting all the same. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This portfolio covers the body of work I have completed academically at the University of the Incarnate Word between 2019-2023. Given I switched majors around a couple times, there's a lot of different work here to cover. While I don’t consider all of this my best work right now, I do consider this work notable enough to have archived online. Mostly for my own sake. That said, I sincerely hope you find interest in what’s available in each collection below. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, if you also just want a deep dive 60-page read through of everything covered here with extra descriptions included with each piece, there are downloadable powerpoint & pdf versions here. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
